About Soup-er Sunday:
Soup-er Sunday was born out of a need created by hunger.
“Everyone should experience the pure happiness that washes over you when you eat something which was carefully crafted for you.” – CC
Chef Crystal started making soups to distribute into the community for any, and all who were not able to provide food for themselves during the pandemic when many turned to unemployment and grocery distribution lines. Upon seeing the vast need for distribution on that level while volunteering, Crystal quickly realized that most of the food collected was cold and packaged. She realized what was missing, cooked meal distribution. Most could receive produce, dry cereals/goods, canned goods – these things are a blessing when you have nothing – however while handing out the food a lot of recipients asked for something hot, and something to drink. There are soup kitchens and those are a blessing for those recipients who are mobile
and can stand in line to receive, but there are so many terminally homeless who can’t get to those lines and depend on others to retrieve food for them.
Starting out, she was able to provide for 100 people on a consistent basis. Currently providing for 250-300 since coming to First United Methodist Church of Orlando.
In 2021 Crystal partnered with One Heart for Women and Children. Together they were able to distribute hot meals on Sundays. She relies heavily on donations and the kindness of others who want to contribute to the cause. God has been providing donations towards packaging materials and ingredients to make the meals happen each week. Soup is often the easiest thing to create for the masses to make the budget stretch the farthest.
